GAIA'S PLATE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

Gaia’s Plate Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a blend of traditional Tuscan varietals: Frantoio, Pendolino, Moraiolo, Leccino and Mignola. Every bottle comes from Fattoria di San Quintino, my family’s 200 hectare estate farm located in the countryside between Florence and Pisa.

  • The olives are handpicked in November and milled within 24 hours of harvesting at a state of the art milling facility near the farm.

  • They are cold-pressed at temperatures below 27°C, in complete absence of oxygen to avoid oxidation

about this year's harvest

2023 had been a challenging year for the olive trees. Prolonged 40+ C temperatures are tolerated by the trees but at least 30% of the olives dropped prematurely as the trees didn’t have enough water to bring them to the finish line. Thankfully, olives were healthy and the new oil is exactly what you would expect from a Tuscan extra virgin olive: green olives with hints of artichoke to the nose and the right pepperiness to the mouth. The slightly bitter after note is an indication of an excellent olive oil with the right amount of polyphenols which will keep fresh for a long time.

TASTING NOTES

Colour: Intense green.

Taste: Full-flavoured with crisp, fresh green vegetable notes, particularly artichoke, and a tasty vein of pungent pepperiness. A true Tuscan olive oil with a remarkably piquant distinctiveness and lingering aromatic notes.

Nose: Fruity with some green leaf aroma; clean-edged fruity fragrances of green olive, with nuances of artichoke and thistle

Pairing: wonderful drizzled directly on lightly-toasted artisanal bread and on raw vegetables. Add it as a finishing touch on soups, pasta or light fish
